A Promise Kept
Earlier this week I promised to expand on each item of that prayer update. The ministry in Boston to individuals was highlighted on Monday. Today’s post will deal with our support needs.
Deb and I are vocational missionaries and we plan to be so until the Lord returns or until we go to be with Him. We believe in what we do and are committed to the facilitation of urban church planting globally. In order to do so, we need to continually nurture our support team. It costs a lot of money to live and to minister in the city, and yet, by ministering in the city, one is able to effectively minister to the world. In other words, it is good stewardship of our missionary dollars to support missionaries who target the city in order to minister the gospel to the world. The truth is, Deb and I need additional supporters, or increased support from our current supporters. I hasten to add that we, (Deb and I), know that many of you, (individuals, as well as churches), are already sacrificially supporting us. We appreciate and love all of you who have committed to becoming part of our support team—your commitment to us and the Boston ministry is very humbling.
Our Current Situation
Over a year ago and as a result of financial pressure, Deb and I decided to refinance our ministry home. By doing so, we were able to reduce our financial need by about $1,000.00 per month. While helping us in the short run, this also means that we now have a 30 year mortgage. At my age of 56, this may not be the best situation. Secondly, as a result of the diminishing of some church support, and as a result of an increase of health insurance, we are down another $600.00 of monthly support. Of course this is putting a crunch on our monthly budget. We are making adjustments, and we are still doing alright financially, but it is time to make some proactive moves.
Deb and I are not in despair, nor are we overly concerned about our need for additional monthly financial support. We have been serving the Lord now for a long time and have experienced His care for us too many times to doubt Him now. We don’t doubt Him, but we are looking for additional financial supporters. If you would like to be part of this important great commission endeavor, perhaps you will consider joining our financial team. We are working to facilitate a church planting movement in the city, and we need your help.
